Our tip for the West coast: Restaurant Es Passeig in Port Soller

Posted by Sandra on 19.07.2016

There is certainly no shortage of restaurants in Port Soller and also the demand is there. A historic train brings regularly many tourists and residents from the “Orange village” to the harbor. Most of them don’t know how to do anything else but order some cheap snacks a few steps from the station. The fact that, only some hundred meters away there is one of the best restaurants of the island, is ignored or simply not known by many of them.
Since February 2005 the restaurant is managed with much passion by Marcel and Yvonne Battenberg. You sit close to the hustle and bustle of the waterside promenade, and enjoy a gorgeous view onto the bay of Soller and the Tramuntana hills in the background.
The excellent characteristics of this restaurant are difficult to put into few words: great cordial service, very child-friendly ambiance, extraordinary creative evening cuisine, to name but a few. The place offers a unique feel-good atmosphere.
Many of the guests are regular guests, simply because the combination of culinary delights and ambiance is unbeatable. This is the merits of the chef of the restaurant, Marcel Battenberg, as well as the sensibility of Yvonne Battenberg for the appropriate wine for every single course. Obviously the palm trees and the waves of the sea moving gently against the beach and the cosy-romantic-elegant design play a part too.
But the best will be you find out yourself. For example in combination with a visit of Port Soller, the only fortified harbor on the North-West coast of the island, or a flying visit to the orange valley of Soller, amidst the Tramuntana mountains and untouched by the mass tourism of the island.
Meat enthusiasts should definitely taste the steak tartare, prepared at the table. Further highlights on the menu are e.g. the burger of organic Angus beef from the local Finca Son Mayol, the Majorcan suckling pig in aspic with horseradish ice cream, the Mediterranean fish soup, or the sautéed saddle of lamb with orange-pepper salad. We also recommend the “tapas” which are served as “one meter Es Passeig” for two persons. For the youngsters there are some very tasty and -above all- healthy dishes. And for their entertainment there are drawing and painting implements.
A very recommendable restaurant where the cuisine is often very close to the Michelin Star.
