An excursion to the Hole Rock – Sa Foradada

Posted by Sandra on 19.09.2016

Sa Foradada is a popular destination for day-trippers on Majorca, situated on the Tramuntana coast- near Deiá. The particularity of this nice place is that you can only reach it by foot or by boat. The Hole Rock not only attracts by a spectacular view, but also by a sea view restaurant, well-known for its paella which is cooked over an open fire. We recommend a trip to this place starting from Port de Sóller. Enjoy a sightseeing cruise by motorboat or sailing yacht along the rocky coast on light blue shimmering water. You’ll pass caves that have been developed by the wind and sea in the course of centuries, the village of Llucalcari and the bay of Cala de Deiá, before you reach the headland with the prevalent hole.
The bay enjoys great popularity among boat owners and excursionists. Even some luxury yacht lies there at anchor. Beside luxury mega yachts the simpler sailing boats ride at anchor on the reflecting surface of the water. They all have one aim: enjoy the view onto the sea at the beach bar Sa Foradada. Those who don’t get the transport service by a dinghy as the super yacht guests can come ashore by swimming to the coast. Once you reach the Chiringuito at the top, you’ll have to expect some long waiting times in high season if you don’t have any reservation. A table for two is still possible to get hold of, but groups definitely should make a reservation in advance. The restaurant made of wooden construction and bamboo roof is mostly jam-packed. Lidia, the daughter of founder Emilio Fernandez does run the restaurant by now together with his husband Valentin. Beside paella (14-18 Euro), they offer fried fish or squid (18 Euro), different Pa amb Oli, salads and some other typical dishes. The view and the rustic atmosphere make „Sa Foradada Restaurant“, where Michael Douglas, Halle Berry, Tom Hanks or Majorcan celebrity Rafael Nadal already have been, to a highlight for any Majorca trip. If you look for silence and loneliness Sa Foradada is the wrong place, but should you wish to enjoy good food and nice views onto the coast and sea, this is just the place for you.
